AMERICAN RED CROSS CERTIFICATION CLASSES

  • Lifeguarding and CPR Training Review (Blended Learning Course)

LIFEGUARDING (15+ yrs)

This is a blended learning class that combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency. Participants will receive the link for the online portion after completing the pretest evaluation.

Provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies, as well as provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. The course content and activities prepare participants to respond quickly and effectively in order to prevent drowning and injuries.

Prerequisites:

  • Participants must be age 15 by the completion of the course.
  • Successfully complete the two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations:
  • Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest: -Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface, then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed). Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs. Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
  • Prerequisite 2: Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds: -Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed)

Completion Requirements:

  • Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities.
  • Successfully complete the final skills assessments and score 80 percent or higher on the final written exams.

Certification: An American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguard Training/First Aid (valid for 2 years) and an  American Red Cross certificate for CPR/AED (valid for 1 year).

LIFEGUARD RECERTIFICATION

This is a blended learning class that combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency. Please plan to complete the initial online lessons of your training at least two days prior to your first on-site skills session. A link for online learning will be sent 2 weeks prior to the class date.

Participants Must Have:

  • A membership to The Connection is not required.
  • Completed online progress report
  • A copy of your current (or lapsed NO MORE than 30 days from the course start date) certification
  • A bathing suit for water skills
  • Pocket mask (can be purchased before testing at The Connection for $20).

Prerequisites:

  • Must have successfully passed the lifeguard course 2 years prior with a valid cert (or within 30 day of expiration).
  • You must then complete the two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations:

  • Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities.
  • Successfully complete three final skill scenarios, and score an 80 percent or higher on the final written exams.

Certification: American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguard Training/First Aid/CPR/AED: valid for 2 years
