If you have been in our building lately you may have noticed all the beautiful artwork filling The Connection’s walls. No, we didn’t go on a shopping spree, but we have been getting ready for our 9th annual “Art in Autumn”, an exhibit honoring women cancer survivors.
Thirty-four pieces of artwork, created by both novice and professional survivor / artists, will be on display from mid-September until late October in celebration of ovarian and breast cancer awareness months.
A public wine and cheese reception will be held on September 22, from 6:30 – 8 p.m. to kick off the event, with artists available for conversation. The collection includes pastels, watercolors, oil paintings, canvas, paper mosaics and photography. If you see any pieces you love, the artwork is for sale! All artists are generously donating a percentage of proceeds to benefit Pathways.
Pathways, one of the only local organizations that provides direct services to women with cancer, is committed to empowering women to recognize their strengths and encouraging them to make choices that enable them to become their own self-care advocates.
“Through art, women can find relief from the physical and emotional challenges of cancer treatment and its aftermath, and may achieve a sense of peace through the exploration of creative outlets,” states Lesley Andrews, Pathways Director.
Programs are available free of charge to female cancer survivors. For more information about Pathways contact Lesley Andrews, Pathways Director, at lesley.andrews@theconnectiononline.org
